bony foramina of the central part of the cribriform plate through which most branches of the olfactory dural lymphatic network crossed to the nasal mucosa. Measurements revealed that in young adults, foramina within 350 μm of the midline were larger (median diameter 99 μm) than those located more laterally (median diameter 42 μm) (Figures S11A–S11D). In aged adults, medial foramina of the cribriform plate were 24% smaller, 49% less numerous, and occupied 64% less overall area (area density) than in young adults, but lateral foramina were unchanged (Figures 6D–6F). As reflected by the area density values, linear regression analysis of foramen size and number gave values of R2 = 0.2749, p = 0.3644 in young adults; R2 = 0.6069, p = 0.1204 in aged mice; and R2 = 0.7712, p = 0.0008 in both groups analyzed together, consistent with a link between the two features in aged mice.
